Our Journey
A Collaborative Path Toward Educational Excellence
Founded as part of the Erasmus+ Capacity Building initiative, INITIATION launched in December 2025, bringing together eight universities and research organisations. Since then, our consortium has focused on digital transformation and sustainability in higher education, particularly benefiting institutions in Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Full Project Description
INITIATION is an Erasmus+ Capacity Building project designed to strengthen the capacity of Higher Education Institutions in Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina to lead the digital and green transition in higher education. The project brings together universities, research organisations, and stakeholders from North Macedonia, Cyprus, Austria, Albania, and Bosnia and Herzegovina to support institutional transformation through innovation, training, and cross-sector collaboration.
The project addresses key challenges in the Western Balkans related to digital skills gaps, sustainability awareness, and limited integration of green and digital competencies into university curricula. By adopting a whole-institution approach, INITIATION focuses on building the strategic and pedagogical capacity of universities to adapt to evolving technological, environmental, and labour-market demands.
Through blended training programmes, study visits, shadowing activities, and collaborative learning experiences, the project supports academic leaders and faculty members in developing institutional strategies for digital transformation and sustainable education. It also strengthens teaching practices and promotes interdisciplinary curricula that integrate digital literacy and green competencies across disciplines.
Students benefit from hands-on learning opportunities such as hackathons, mobility activities, and innovative learning programmes, enabling them to apply digital and sustainability skills in real-world contexts and enhance their employability. Engagement with industry representatives, policymakers, and educational stakeholders further strengthens the link between higher education and labour market needs.
By fostering transnational collaboration and knowledge exchange between EU and Western Balkan institutions, INITIATION aims to create digitally mature and environmentally responsible higher education ecosystems that support innovation, sustainability, and long-term institutional development in the region.
